Good day to al Handle bar changing Readers out there.
This is coming from a guy who has experienced al frustration possible wen it comes to handlebars.
Learn from me and manage your expectations.
Let me get one thing straight here and this is most important of al. Not al handlebars are 22mm.
What i mean is exactly 22mm. Al the 7/8 inch or 22mm handlebars come quite close to it but they are not al exactly 22mm.
The big issue is that Yamaha, Bmw, Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki they al have different ideas on what is 22mm.
For example a Bmw often is more like 21,8mm. Meaning their switches are also quite exact and fit perfectly around this original handlebar.
Now wen you by a cool new universal one. You will happily unbox it and then get a surprise...It does not fit. The disappointment can be Huge!
Save yourself this disappointment by reading this blog. Because wen you buy a 22mm steel handlebar this often needs chrome or paint. This will add some thickness to the material and it will get bigger. So you will need to sand or grind this off. Preferably use sand paper, slow and annoying process but gets the best result.
Make everything fit by reducing the handle bar diameter on the location were the switch will be. Do not grind off more then the location of the switch because you wil notice this wen riding and will not make the rider any better.
Wen you have aluminum often it is anodized or coated. Also these handlebars are a bit thicker sometimes.
Keep this in mind wen you buy one! It is not always easy plug and play!
Oh and small tip wen you buy 22mm or 7/8 inch grips the left inner diameter is smaller because there is no throttle.
The right one has a bigger diameter and this should go on the right side.
Good luck making your handle bar fit!! Keep in mind do not let this hold you back.
Buy the perfect looking handle bar and this is well worth the extra effort. Because stock bikes are for quitters!!
Good things come slowly.
Kind regards,
