Howto : Revive your Ultrabatt!

Project took a bit longer than expected? Ultrabatt battery's tend to go into discharge protection after being unused for a while. Get it back going with the tips below.

Get into it:

When a Ultrabatt battery shows 0V it can be an indication that the fuse is blown or the over-discharge protection is active.

  1. First you can disconnect the Ultrabatt battery from your vehicle and wait a few seconds. If the voltage reaches 9,6V or above it will deactivate the over-discharge protection and you can start charging your battery.
  2. If voltage remains 0V, it can be an indication that the battery was in over-discharge mode for a very long time and it will not reach a Voltage above 9,6V and it will not be able to deactivate the over-discharge protection by itself.

Most battery chargers have a spark-protection and can only start charging when it detects it is connected to a battery and a certain minimum voltage is detected. In such situation we recommend to connect another (conventional) 12V battery parallel with your Ultrabatt battery. (plus on plus and minus on minus) and wait for a minute.

After a minute you can remove this (conventional) 12V battery and connect your battery charger to start charging the Ultrabatt battery.

Most times after a minute the Ultrabatt battery reaches a voltage above 9,6V and it will deactivate the over-discharge protection so it is being recognized by the battery charger.

  1. If the voltage remains 0V it can also be an indication that the build-in fuse is blown (due to short-circuit etc.). If that is the case please contact us again to receive information on how to replace the fuse.
  2. If the fuse is still intact you can connect a fully charged (conventional) 12V battery parallel again like mentioned previously and wait a bit longer, something like 20 minutes.
Disconnect the battery, measure voltage from the Ultrabatt battery and if it is above 8,4V you can start charging.

Succes, what now?

So you've managed to get the battery back to live, great! We do advice you to maintain your battery the right way to avoid ending up in the same situation again in the future.

We did write some pretty useful blogs about maintenance on battery's and much more, you'll find those here:
