Autumn Preparations

Not all motorcycle riders will ride all year long, but for those of you who will... Hats off! Since we all want to take best care of our motorcycles, it is very important to make sure your bike is ready for Autumn weather and/or ready to be stalled in the garage. You might wonder why you should take care of the bike before stalling it, but it's one of the most important maintenance moments! We'll go trough the most important steps of keeping your bike mint through the winter in the following steps:

Cleaning

First of all, it is very important to make sure you wash away all the dirt of your bike. And be very thorough while doing so, because even the smallest bits of dirt on your bike can do damage over time. So we recommend using the right materials doing so. This doesn't mean to go full throttle with your pressure washer and wash out all lubricants, but you get the point. For example use a Motorcycle friendly pressure washer from Muc-Off which comes with a nozzle that doesn't let you mess up the bike. First hose of the bike nicely and then start washing it. When you go and wash the bike by hand, make sure you use a clean sponge and a Nuver washing liquid.

Decided you want to keep on riding through the winter? Make sure you hose off your bike after EACH ride to make sure you get off all the salt and any other dirty residue.

Protecting

Now that you have got your bike all cleaned up, it is time to start protecting it from all the bad stuff out there. A simple solution would be to use a Nuver protectant wax to make sure it will stay nice and clean. This will form a protective barrier that will protect your bike from dirt and rust. It is recommended to be doing this after each time you wash your bike in these colder periods.

Maintaining

During storage of the motorcycle, it is very important you keep on maintaining the battery of your motorcycle. To do this, it is best to get charger that works with your battery and make sure you keep on charging it. A lot of new chargers have a mainanace program that keeps the battery at perfect quality. But do make sure you have the right charger, like you will need a completely different charger for a lithium than for lead acid battery's. Or be real safe and grab yourself a charger that charges them all!

Pro-tip: use a plug that you can wire on to your battery so you can straight up plug a battery charger in.

Apart from maintaining your battery, it is also important to make sure the fuel in your motorcycle doesn't attract too much water and won't do damage to any other parts. To do this, we first recommend only using the right fuel for your motorcycle (believe us, spend the extra buck) and also add some Fuel Stabilizer when storing the bike for a longer period of time. After all this, also close your fuel tap to make sure nothing will spill.

Still working on the bike and setting the tank aside? Check our Tank cure kit to make sure it will last a lifetime!

Lube all moving parts

A lot of parts on your motorcycle are constantly moving and can therefore adapt rust more easily than other parts. Be sure all the parts are nice and lubed, so that water or even salt (when you keep on riding) won't mess up your bike. There are a lot of types of lube out there for different parts of the bike. But when you lube al regular parts with a simple lube and use a Nuver chain lube for your chain you should be good!
