Originally a black BMW K100 RT from 1988, this classic 4 cylinder, 1000cc motorcycle owned by Fred has been transformed into a true personal scrambler, built not only for riding, but also to share memories, style, and a lifetime enthusiasm for motorcycles.

At the end of 2024, Fred decided to make his vision a reality with a fully customised build according to his exact wishes and ideas. Each element, from the saddle colour to the tank finish, was chosen thoughtfully to create a bike that feels both though and sophisticated.

Inspired by Memories and a Comeback to Riding

The Racing Green fuel tank is one of the most significant features of this motorcycle. The colour is a meaningful reference to the owner’s first lease car which he loved as much as this motorbike which brings a very personal touch to the build.

After a break of 30 years from riding, he knew exactly what he was looking for when he returned: a solid, though-looking motorcycle with a scrambler look. The idea simple: an old school character with modern details.

Bringing the Vision to Life

The full build was finished in little under four months by Dutch Motorcycles, with the owner closely involved throughout the process.

Key choices such as LED lights, extra headlight on the frame, and custom tank and saddle colours were all part of his well-defined vision. He also made a 500 kilometres round trip to see the process firsthand.

One memorable experience took place when he saw a finished K100 scrambler that looked very similar to what he was imagining for his new motorcycle.

“That first feeling of looking at something you have been dreaming of, standing in front of you and knowing one will be driving a similar motorbike soon, was unforgettable”

From Touring Motorbike to Custom Scrambler

The majority of the redesign required stripping the K100 of its original touring setup. Removing the factory fairing, windshield, and exhaust system was one of the most time-consuming stages of the build but it allowed the bike to be rebuilt from scratch with modern parts and new style.

Frame and Chassis Modifications

  • Shortened and reconstructed
  • Fitted with a U-shaped rear frame
  • Specifically designed to fit the new Sadle

This gave the bike a much tighter, more though appearance while also including the new seat perfectly.

Engine Setup

The iconic 1000cc also known as the “Flying Brick” engine was kept entirely original, which was a great choice given K100’s reputation for reliability and durability. The build focused on design, functionality and character more than engine performance.

Lighting and Safety Features

  • LED front, rear and signal lights
  • A modern speedometer
  • An additional fog light mounted on the frame
  • An extra protective frame around the engine block

These changes improve both the design and functionality, increasing visibility while adding to the bike’s though look.

Old school look with Modern Details

On the outside, the bike combines classic scrambler style with modern details. The combination of the Racing Green Tank, custom saddle, LED lights, modern instruments and leather side wing bags creates a motorbike that is both classic and contemporary. The leather bags offer the bike a unique appearance while adding daily functionality.

Turning Heads Everywhere

When asked what his favourite part about the finished bike is, the owner’s response was simple: the reaction it gets everywhere he goes

“Wherever I ride or park this bike, there are always, really always, people coming up to me, enthusiastically asking about this bike”

One special moment happened while transporting the bike by car and trailer for a tour with his son. A rider slowed down and pulled alongside to give a thumbs up and signal how great the bike looked.

“People really turn their heads to have a look. This felt great!! I love my bike.”

Ready for the Road

With the build finished, the owner is eager to put plenty of miles on the bike again.

This BMW K100 scrambler is a great example of how a vintage motorbike can be changed into something highly unique by combining memory, design, craftsmanship, and passion to create a motorcycle that tells a story every time it is parked.
